CARE NETHERLANDS VISITS THYOLO:

A Story of Hope and Resilience through the ECHO Project.

Thyolo, Malawi – In the heart of Traditional Authority Mbawawela, smiles, songs, and stories welcomed a special delegation from CARE Netherlands during their recent field visit to the ECHO Project—a life-changing initiative implemented by Njira Impact and partners in response to the El Niño-induced food crisis.

Launched as an eight-month emergency program, the ECHO Project provides rapid, life-saving support to families severely affected by food insecurity. With a focus on nutrition, financial relief, and community engagement, the project is currently reaching 1,920 vulnerable households in Thyolo district.

Tangible Impact:

-Monthly cash transfers of MK92,500 over three months
Community mass screenings for early detection of malnutrition
Community Complementary Feeding and Learning Sessions (CCFLS) to educate and nourish at-risk individuals, especially children.

During the visit, CARE Netherlands had the opportunity to interact with participants who shared emotional stories of transformation. One mother, visibly moved, expressed:

“Before this project, I had no hope. Now I can feed my children and see them healthy again. The support has changed our lives.”

The delegation toured activity sites, observed nutrition screening exercises, and participated in CCFLS sessions where communities demonstrated how they prepare nutritious meals using locally available foods.

Working Together for Change

The success of the ECHO Project is a result of collaborative efforts with key implementing partners, including CARE, Self Help Africa, CARD, CADECOM, YONECO, and Eagles Relief. Together, these organizations are ensuring that interventions are both people-centered and sustainable, leaving no one behind.

Njira Impact remains committed to building the resilience of vulnerable communities, particularly women and children, through practical and empowering approaches.
