“NO WOMAN LEFT BEHIND”: HOW ROSE FOUND SUPPORT THROUGH NJIRA IMPACTS DOOR TO DOOR SERVICES.

When Njira Impact’s health team first met Rose, a pregnant mother from Mwansambo in Nkhotakota, she had walked several kilometers to attend a community outreach clinic. Quiet but eager to learn, Rose asked many questions during the session on maternal health, catching the attention of the nurse,  who was facilitating the session.

What started as a brief interaction at the clinic became a life-changing connection.

A week later,  Njira Impact community health outreach team showed up at Rose’s home for a door-to-door follow-up. “We wanted to ensure that she wasn’t just listening during the clinic—but that she was practicing what she learned, eating well, and preparing for a safe delivery,” explains Wezzie.

Rose had already started making changes. She had set up a small backyard garden with vegetables after she was told about 6 food group  and was now eating more nutritious meals. But that wasn’t all.“I realized I wasn’t alone,” Rose shares. “When they came to visit me, I felt supported. I started attending my ANC (Antenatal Care) appointments on time and even encouraged two of my friends in the village to do the same.”

Through these regular home visits, Njira health workers reminded Rose—and other pregnant women in the area—about their next antenatal appointments, talked about birth preparedness, the importance of delivering at a health facility, and how to recognize danger signs in pregnancy.
